Seeking validation

Why do people feel the need to update everyone about their social life? I feel that the answer to this is "validation"; validation from others that your life is indeed, a tiny bit better than other's lives, and to convince your own self that it is, because "being optimistic" might not be a solution, but atleast it makes you feel better about yourself.

Compare life to a rollercoaster. There is a point where you reach the very top and then there's nowhere to go but down, so swiftly that you are screaming, your hair goes haywire and your face looks weird. At that point, there is always a camera that captures you. People always remember your failures the best, but they often forget that you'd been at the top of the figurative rollercoaster just moments ago. That is why the human mind feels that it should accentuate it's successes too, because no one wants to be remembered as 'the one who always fails', right? It tries to hide one's failures, by bragging about it's achievements. All of that for seeking validation and being praised by others.

It's basic animal instincts, I think. No one wants to be the loner in their herd; everyone wants to be unique and different fron the rest. A little undemanded appreciation ain't harmful, either. That is a great driving force, that propels us to achieving more, in order to get validated by the society. Sometimes, it gets out of hand. People get addicted to this praise and attention. They change their own character and morals for getting praised by other people. This is the juncture where one begins to lose themselves. People lose their originality, only in order to seek validation, and when they realize this, they've already hit rock bottom. They almost become parasites, living off of fame and praise and attention.

So for once, let's just stop and think "Is this really what I want, or am I doing this just to please others?" Think about what you really want, find your own goals and dreams and passions and don't think about getting validation from others. Be unapologetic. Don't let societal pressure be the thing that stops you from striving for what you want. Regain control of the steering wheel and let society be in the passenger seat. Do what you really love, because, like the kids say it, #yolo. You only live once. Make it count.
