Seeking validation

Why do people feel the need to update everyone about their social life? I feel that the answer to this is "validation"; validation from others that your life is indeed, a tiny bit better than other's lives, and to convince your own self that it is, because "being optimistic" might not be a solution, but atleast it makes you feel better about yourself. Compare life to a rollercoaster. There is a point where you reach the very top and then there's nowhere to go but down, so swiftly that you are screaming, your hair goes haywire and your face looks weird. At that point, there is always a camera that captures you. People always remember your failures the best, but they often forget that you'd been at the top of the figurative rollercoaster just moments ago. That is why the human mind feels that it should accentuate it's successes too, because no one wants to be remembered as 'the one who always fails', right? It tries to hide one's failure
